JAPAN TO FUND ELECTRIFICATION AND GARDENING PROJECT IN BINGA

At a signing ceremony held in Manjolo, Binga District, the Embassy of Japan extended a grant of eighty-five thousand dollars (USD 85,000) for the “Project for Water Electrification and Development at the Ntengwe Drop-In Centre”.

H.E. the Ambassador of Japan to Zimbabwe, Mr Koichi Morita, and Ms Elisabeth Markham, Director of Ntengwe for Community Development Trust, signed contracts formalising the grant.

Ntengwe Drop-In Centre for orphans and vulnerable children, situated in Manjolo, was constructed by funding from the Embassy of Japan several years ago. Today’s grant will further enhance the operations of the centre. It will be used for electrification of the centre and the establishment of a nutritional garden. The grant will provide for the construction of a water resevoir and the procurement of a borehole pump, irrigation pipes and fencing as well as the equipping and furnishing of the kitchen. LEAD, a local NGO, will be responsible for the sinking of the borehole, once electricity has been installed, and the setting up of the nutrition garden. OVCs will be given extensive training in best gardening practices.

Once fully operational, it is the intention to introduce computer training and a library at the centre. A total of 1,540 OVCs will benefit form the scheme in Manjolo and nearby Sikalenge.
