Embassy of Japan in Zimbabwe will set “DISCOVER JAPAN” week during Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA), from May 1 to May 6, 2007. “DISCOVER JAPAN” is a face to face approach and gives opportunities for Zimbabweans and others to understand many facets of Japanese culture and people.
Embassy of Japan will present two components of introducing Japanese culture and people. One is open the Japanese information booth at Global Quarter. The other is sponsored Ikebana Demonstration at National Gallery. You can meet traditional and modern culture of Cool Japan at the Japanese Information Booth such as tasting Green Tea, looking at Japanese traditional dolls and costumes (KIMONO), seeing Japanese Comics (MANGA) Japanese Animation, playing with Japanese traditional toys. The Japanese Information Booth will open from 10:00 hours to 17:00 hours at Global Quarter during HIFA.
Ikebana Demonstration will be performed by Ms. Mary Marques, Riji Teacher Sogetsu School, at 11:00 hours, Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Second Floor of National Gallery. Ikebana is one of sophisticated traditional Japanese cultures of flower arrangement. After the demonstration, Ikebana flowers will be exhibited at the same place during HIFA.
There is an opening event of “DISCOVER JAPAN” week at the Japanese Information booth, 14:00 hours, Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Sushi Yakawanda Band, composed by some members of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV), will perform some beautiful Japanese songs. The band also presents YOSAKOI dancing, one of Japanese traditional dancing, and Karate demonstration.
