The Ambassador of Japan to Zimbabwe, H.E. Mr Takeo Yoshikawa today officially commissioned Silobela Old People's Home Farm Irrigation Scheme. The Home is run by the Jairos Jiri Association. At the ceremony, Governor and President Minister of Midlands Province, Mr. C Msipa and Honourable Senator, Chief Malisa were also present.
The irrigation scheme was rehabilitated by a grant of USD 90,000 (ninety thousand US dollars) that the Embassy of Japan extended to the Jairos Jiri Association in March this year. The grant was used for the purchase of three borehole pumps, and other ancillary equipment such as pipes and rubber hosepipes for the Home's twenty-six hectare farm irrigation scheme, which had fallen into disrepair. The objective of the project is to re-exploit the farm and increase food security.
This project will greatly improve the standard of living, not only of the sixty residents of the Home, but of other locals of Silobela who will be able to purchase produce from the scheme. Furthermore, the boreholes will afford the residents of the Home access to safe drinking water.
