Handover Ceremony of Japanese-Funded project " The Project for Improvement of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene at Seke 11 Primary School in Chitungwiza "

2015/11/26
On 23rd October, the Ambassador of Japan to Zimbabwe, H.E. Mr Yoshi Tendai Hiraishi officially handed over a borehole and a toilet block to Seke 11 Primary School in Chitungwiza. Drilling a borehole and construction of a toilet block have been implemented by the fund of sixty-eight thousand, nine hundred and twenty-seven dollars (USD68, 927) from the Government of Japan.

Chitungwiza as a whole has been experiencing severe water shortages and the risk of an outbreak of water-borne diseases is a constant threat. Before the implementation of the project, pupils and staff at the school were suffering from a lack of safe water source as well as proper ablution facilities. Pupils were required to bring water from home every day, for drinking and washing hands which was a heavy burden for them. The borehole and the constructed toilet block will therefore greatly contribute to the improvement of the learning environment for pupils and future generations.

Speaking at the occasion, H.E. Ambassador Hiraishi emphasized that water, sanitation and hygiene is one of the most important components for quality education and expressed his hope that a borehole and a toilet block are maintained in good working condition by the school for years to come.
