On September 24, Ambassador Maekawa received a courtesy call from Ms. Anna Mutavati, UN Women Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa. In a fruitful discussion, Ambassador Maekawa and Ms. Mutavati exchanged views on the protection of women and girls in emergencies, women’s economic empowerment, and the promotion of WPS (Women, Peace and Security).
Japan is promoting gender equality in peace and security and, in cooperation with the international community, is working to expand women’s “equal and meaningful participation” and to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls.
Japan will continue to vigorously promote WPS as one of the main pillars of its foreign policy and, in coordination with the international community, will contribute to realizing a just and equal society for women and girls.
